About Me

Apochi is a documentary photographer, filmmaker and communication professional based in Abuja, Nigeria, with particular interest in documenting culture, identity, children and social change around Africa.

He is a freelance photographer and communication consultant, and has been commissioned to work for other organizations such as  Getty Images, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, WHO-AFRO, StreetChild of Nigeria, United Purpose and Jingkingsiar in India.

Apochi believes photography is a strong tool to create social change – changing narratives and inspiring action.

He has a diploma in photojournalism for the New York Institute of Photography (NYIP),  a certificate in Public Narrative from Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education. He is currently enrolled in MA Media Ethics and Social Change at the University of Sussex and completed the entrepreneurial journalism creators program at CUNY's Newmark Graduate School of Journalism in 2022.

He is a member of the African Photojournalism Database (An Everyday Africa Project), he has also attended the Foundry Photography Workshop in Kigali Rwanda and the Canon Storytelling workshop in Lagos Nigeria. 

When he is not on assignment, Nelson also helps organisations meet their strategic communication needs and works on special projects. He can be contacted for assignments globally.
